Celebrities react to Obama victory
It is no surprise that Oprah has been Obama’s #1 fan. She continued to speak out on today’s Oprah show, where she came out cheering and waiving an American flag.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Courtney Cox and husband David Arquette hosted an Obama victory party in their Beverly Hills home. E! Online reports Jennifer Aniston, Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) and Isla Fisher where among the guest.
Here are celeb reactions given to the Huffington Post and agencies.
- Actor George Clooney: “I congratulate President-elect Obama on his historic victory, and now it’s time to begin unifying the country so we can take on the extraordinary challenges that this generation faces.”
- The pop diva Madonna: “I’m so f—ing happy right now”
- Lindsay Lohan: “Yes we can.”
- Singer and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs: “I felt like my vote was the vote that put him into office. … And that may not be true but that’s how much power it felt like I had.”
- Singer Usher: “This will go down in history, in black history, for all of the sacrifices that the great Joseph Lowery and Martin Luther King made, this actually pays off for their sacrifice. … I’m speechless. I don’t even know what to say.”
- Jessica Alba: “I was surprised that McCain brought race into his speech. I guess he was trying to bring people together.”
- Amber Lee Ettinger aka Obama girl burst into tears when her man was named the new president of the United States. “This is the day I’ve been waiting for”.
Also, what caused quite a bit of a stir was Colin Powell’s endorsement of Obama a couple of weeks leading up to the final night. Here is what Powell had to say, “we’re very, very proud to have a new American President who also happens to be African-American … As I watched [the news anchors call the election] – pretty moving moment. Everybody cried … I am overjoyed.”
Regardless of your political affiliation, this has been the best election ever. From the Palin phenomenon, the Obama girl, Joe the plumber and the countless celebrity endorsements.
How can we also forget the little disputes between artists. The controversy between Paulina Rubio and Eduardo Verastegui carried on after the actor declared his opposition to California’s proposition on gay marriage. Now post-election there is a juicy declaration that Pau might have lied about being able to vote in the states. To read the full details visit www.impre.com/entretenimiento
How do you feel about the election outcome? Did celebrity endorsements sway your vote?

i personally believe its everyone’s patriotic duty to educate themselves and can care less for celebrity endorsements, but i can understand the sway celebrities have in that people could so easily identify with them since they’re always in the spotlight. more importantly though, its very exciting to have taken part in such a historical election and am looking forward to Obama in office. something about this man brings hope to this nation, something we really need in these dark hours. i just hope with all the scrutiny and pressure he’ll be under, he’ll keep to and make alive the ideals that got him voted into office and not succumb to any sort of political corruption.

No, celebrity endorsements did not sway my decision in my choice for President. My choice was based on what I felt I needed from the next President of the United States, and for me, Obama represented what I needed: hope, passion, intellence, diplomacy, and vision.
However, in my opinion, what celebrities have done is encourage people to take part in this election process.
